Hey Phill I know your a busy man and all please find it in your heart to answer this question. I really love your videos on youtube but I needed more so I subbed. I knew you were going to win Mr. O back in 2010 when I saw you, I had faith you were going to win. Anyhow reason for this post is that I have a friend that is going through some health issues with his weight and might cost him a leg literally. He's about 400lbs but he's not really that much on the fat side he's just big. He doesn't have any experience with working out, complete noob. I have a little experience and I wanna help him out, he doesn't know how he should start. Any suggestions on how to cut down the weight?
Hey Brent,
We'll get this question in front of Phil next time we record a Q&A so he can answer you directly, BUT, here are a few tips we here at GC thought might help.
1- START SLOWLY. If you jump right in to a 6-day a week split he'll never stick to it. Start with three days a week. Maybe try a push day (chest, shoulders, triceps), a pull day (back, biceps) and a legs day.
2- DIET, DIET, DIET. Focus first on a diet consisting of lean proteins like chicken or fish. Rather than having him try NOT to eat as much, try just making healthier choices when he does eat. Instead of that beef burger have a chicken sandwich. Instead of fries on the side go for vegetables or a salad.
3- CARDIO. You've got to do at least some. It doesn't have to be running on a treadmill, it can be all sorts of things (hiking, stairs, whatever), but if he's trying to get healthier he has to find some type of cardio-like exercise that he can tolerate... hopefully even enjoy.
Hope that helps!
